Community Health Information Collaborative

The Mission of the Community Health Information Collaborative (CHIC) is to provide regional access and utilization of healthcare information through collaboration.

The Vision of the Community Health Information Collaborative is to:

  • Address new challenges and opportunities for our members.
  • Provide services and leadership in health information technology.
  • Continually evaluate services and plan for the future.
  • Facilitate relationships with all regional health care related entities.

The goals of the collaboration:

  • Develop linkages with health information resources both within and outside the region;
  • Encourage compatibility of network members’ technology and equipment;
  • Provide education to health care providers in the region to develop and enhance computer and technology skills;
  • Provide continuing medical education to rural health providers and community-based training for health care students;
  • Obtain discounts on equipment business applications and information services through group purchasing;
  • Serve as a forum for discussion of information systems and telecommunication issues and for sharing of experiences; and
  • Advocate for information systems’ policies and legislation that will improve health care delivery in the region.

CHIC is the administrative coordinator for the Emergency Preparedness planning in the Northeast region of Minnesota. CHIC was awarded a grant from the Minnesota Department of Health Office of Emergency Preparedness for the Healthcare System Preparedness Program. CHIC along with the executive committee and members of the Northeast Minnesota Hospital Emergency Preparedness Group are working to prepare hospitals and supporting healthcare systems to deliver coordinated and effective care to victims of terrorism and other public health emergencies. The programs priority areas include improving bed and personnel surge capacity, decontamination capabilities, isolation capacity, pharmaceutical supplies, and supporting training, education, drills and exercises throughout the region.
